Facilitating a Therapeutic Support Group

An interactive, online workshop providing the skills needed to start and facilitate a therapeutic support group.

Starting and facilitating therapeutic support groups can be a challenging exercise, for even the most experienced clinicians. In this interactive session, you’ll learn practical strategies for maximising time in a group setting, and skills for acknowledging the individuality of clients.

Learning outcomes

At the end of this workshop, you'll be able to: 

  • set up an effective and safe therapeutic support group
  • create a clear aim and focus within the support group
  • identify, design and facilitate appropriate therapeutic group activities in a group setting 
  • understand the ethical and legal implications of working with a therapeutic support group 
  • understand the importance of setting boundaries 
  • provide referrals to other services.
     

Ideal for

Clinicians, social workers, community organisation workers, health professionals, youth workers, child and family workers and counsellors at any level of experience who are planning to or interested in facilitating a therapeutic support group.

About the presenter

Maria Gullaci is an experienced trainer with Relationships Australia Victoria, with 16 years of expertise in the integrated family services and family violence sector. Her extensive career includes roles such as case manager, senior practitioner, group facilitator, family violence consultant, clinical supervisor, and team leader.. Maria is dedicated to building practitioners' capacity and confidence, with a strong commitment to empowering professionals to implement best practices and enhance client outcomes.

Registration information

  • When you register, you'll be taken to our payment gateway to complete your registration. A new account will be automatically created for you in our Learning Management System (Moodle). 
  • Registrations for scheduled workshops close 48 hours before the event. 
  • Workshops must be paid for at least 2 business days before the training date, or your registration will be cancelled.  
  • If paying by invoice, proof of payment needs to be provided at least 24 hours ahead of the event.
