Working in Community Justice

This immersive, full-day online workshop is designed for individuals interested in or new to the community justice sector.

Participants will gain a comprehensive overview of the sector's key principles, challenges, and rewarding opportunities. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a foundational understanding of what it means to work within community justice, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to serve their communities effectively.


This interactive workshop covers the following areas:

Understanding Community Justice

  • Overview of the community justice sector, its purpose, and its role in creating safer, more inclusive communities.
  • Key principles of community justice, including equity, accountability, and restorative practices.
  • An introduction to the sector’s unique challenges and rewards.

Community Engagement and Partnership Building

  • Strategies for building trust and rapport with clients and community members.
  • Tips for collaborating effectively with partner organizations, local agencies, and support networks.
  • The importance of advocacy and empowerment in supporting community needs.
  • Case Studies and Real-World Scenarios.

Applying workshop learning to real-world scenarios in the community justice field

  • Group discussions and role-playing exercises to practice communication, ethical decision-making, and conflict resolution.
  • Reflecting on case studies to understand the impact of community justice and the importance of empathy, respect, and adaptability.

This workshop is ideal for individuals starting their careers in community justice, as well as those interested in transitioning into the sector.

About the presenter

Luke Pepperell is a lead Programs Facilitator for the Rehabilitation and Reintegration team. He has a Bachelor’s degree in criminology and criminal justice, certificate IV in mental health, and is a qualified Mental Health First Aid Instructor. Luke is also currently undertaking a Graduate Diploma in Relationship Counselling. Luke has been facilitating programs for people who use violence for almost 3 years within the community and prison environment. Previously he has worked for the Centre for Law Enforcement and Public Health as a research assistant looking at how to reduce gender-based violence from a global perspective. Additionally, Luke supervises correctional staff across Victoria and supports them in delivering strength-based psychoeducational programs.

  • When you register, you'll be taken to our payment gateway to complete your registration. A new account will be automatically created for you in our Learning Management System (Moodle).
  • Registrations for scheduled workshops close 48 hours before the event. 
  • Workshops must be paid for at least 2 business days before the training date, or your registration will be cancelled.  
  • If paying by invoice, proof of payment needs to be provided at least 24 hours ahead of the event.
